I have met a lot of members who have become friends, the camaraderie is healing. I have not met such warmth, love and brotherhood in a long time.

WHO IS PROP AVAILABLE FOR?

PROP is for gay, bi and trans men and other men who have sex with men, and trans women. PROP is for people who currently and recently use stimulants, specifically crystal meth or cocaine.

People who are currently participating in the Stonewall Project enrolled counseling program are not eligible to participate in PROP.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING PROP?

There are two different parts of PROP.

The first is the PROP lounge, which is a non-structured group social and community part of PROP. Facilitators, health educators and volunteers (graduates of PROP) are on hand to check in with people informally and make introductions between participants. Generally, people chat with each other, get something to eat, get support from other participants, read or just chill out during this time.

The second part of PROP is the rapid urinalysis to test for stimulants (meth/cocaine) and one-on-one counseling. The urine test is optional if you have used recently or otherwise don’t want to test that day. When you get a non-reactive test result, you earn monetary incentives. Every subsequent negative test increases the value of the incentive. If your urine test is reactive, you don’t earn additional incentives, but you don’t lose what you’ve accrued. After the test, there’s one-on-one counseling where our team shares the test results and speaks about any goals or challenges that the client might be facing.

HOW DO I EARN INCENTIVES IN PROP?

You earn an incentive when your urine test is non-reactive for stimulants. You’re welcome to join PROP events and counseling even if you have a reactive urine test, or if you decide not to have your urine tested that day.

To earn incentives in PROP, you agree to visit our site three times a week for 12 weeks for observed urine testing.

Each time you have a non-reactive test for crystal meth, you earn a monetary incentive. You have the opportunity to earn a maximum of $330 in gift cards and gift certificates, and can request a payout of your accrued incentive after you have at least $20 in your account.

If you have a reactive test while participating in PROP, you are encouraged to come back to test on the next PROP day. You may still check in with a counselor if you wish.

HOW DOES PROP HELP PEOPLE?

PROP offers structure and community, and a safe, non-judgmental place to explore your relationship to stimulants. Counselors develop individualized substance use plans to help you meet your goals, and offer support during weekly PROP meetings and counseling sessions.

PROP provides support to clients who are exploring goals of harm reduction or managed use in addition to abstinence.

Clients who are pursuing abstinence make cash points that increase in value with each consecutive negative test. These incentives can be exchanged at any time for gift cards of their choosing. Clients who are pursuing harm reduction goals of decreasing use, using more safely, planned use or questioning their use can come and meet other participants for support and connection. They also still receive one on one counseling time with a counselor if they choose.
