Thank you, Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi

As we learn that Speaker Emerita Pelosi will not seek reelection in 2026, we take a moment to reflect on her accomplishments in responding to the HIV epidemic, and extend our thanks for her decades of service to our communities.
Even in the earliest years of the HIV epidemic, Speaker Emerita Pelosi made it clear that her focus and commitment would be to support people living with HIV at the federal level.
From her arrival in Congress in 1987, her mandate was to compel the federal government to respond to HIV–the disease taking a devastating toll in the City and County of San Francisco.
She promoted legislation, funding, and programs for prevention, research, cure, and medical interventions to save lives. No single member has been more relentless or more fearless in the face of HIV.
The list of her successful legislative efforts represent the safety net that millions of Americans rely upon: From the Ryan White Care Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Housing Opportunities for People with AIDS, the Office of AIDS Research, the Older Americans Act, the Minority HIV/AIDS Initiative, to the End the Epidemic Initiative.
She forged bipartisan coalitions in Congress to move underlying legislation and ongoing funding to these essential pillars of the U.S. healthcare safety-net–now serving millions of individuals every day.
Her faith is the foundation of her empathy for others and her strong commitment to justice and equality under the law, and the belief that every person is deserving of love and care.
San Francisco AIDS Foundation is proud and honored to embrace a record of strong partnership with Speaker Emerita Pelosi and her many amazing staff members over the years of remarkable leadership.
The HIV community of San Francisco extends heartfelt thanks and appreciation for her lifesaving efforts.
