Strut is SFAF’s location in the heart of the Castro, your place for sexual health and HIV services, substance use treatment and support, community events, and so much more.

We welcome people of any gender identity and sexual orientation at our clinic with an emphasis on serving members of the LGBTQ+ community.

Strut is located on Castro Street, between Market and 18th. We are one block from the Castro MUNI station (K/T, L, M, S trains). Buses and surface-level trains that stop nearby are F, 24-Divisadero, 33-Ashbury/18th, 35-Eureka, and 37-Corbett.

You can find the following services:

  • PrEPa way to prevent HIV with medication

    Services include lab tests, dosage instructions, prescriptions, benefits navigation, and adherence support. We offer a few different medications used for PrEP, including oral pills and injectable options.

  • PEPa way to prevent HIV after a possible exposure

    PEP is used in emergency situations with a possible exposure to HIV in the last 72 hours. Call us at 415-581-1600 right away to make sure we can see you.

  • Doxy PEPa way to prevent bacterial STIs

    Doxy PEP involves taking the antibiotic doxycycline after sex to prevent bacterial STIs including chlamydia, syphilis, and gonorrhea. It is for anyone who may be at risk of STIs. Call us at 415-581-1600 to make an appointment to receive Doxy PEP.

  • HIV testing & connection to care

    We offer testing and rapid connection to HIV treatment for folks who aren’t in care or who are newly diagnosed.

  • STI testing & treatment

    We offer testing and treatment for HIV, hep C, chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, vaginal and front hole candidiasis, BV, trich, herpes, genital and anal warts, scabies, m.gen, crabs, and more.

  • Hepatitis C testing & treatment

    We provide hepatitis C testing, treatment, cure, and support.

  • Gender-affirming hormones & trans-inclusive care

    We prescribe and provide gender-affirming hormones to address the spectrum of trans and non-binary needs, and welcome all trans, non-binary, and genderqueer people to our sexual health services.

  • Anal health care

    We’ve got services and resources so you can keep your butt happy and healthy, and can diagnose conditions like fissures, warts, and more.

  • Vaccinations

    We offer hepatitis A and B vaccines, flu shots in the fall and winter, and the mpox vaccine.

  • Substance use treatment & counselingThrough The Stonewall Project

    Outpatient substance use treatment & counseling to gay, bisexual, and queer men, other men who have sex with men, and trans and non-binary folks. Certified by the State Department of Health Care Services Program #380096AN, exp. 3/31/28.

Fill your prescriptions at our pharmacy

The SFAF Pharmacy is located on the first floor of Strut (Suite B). Come to your PrEP, HIV, or sexual health visit at our clinic, and then leave with a same-day prescription fill or refill. We also have delivery options.

Frequently asked questions

  • Do I need to live in San Francisco to access services?

    No, we serve clients regardless of where they live.

  • Does it cost anything to book an appointment?

    Booking an appointment is completely free. Our clinic at Strut does bill insurance as necessary. Most clients will pay little or nothing for the care they receive. Some services & visits may come with a copay or cost.

  • How do I cancel/reschedule my appointment?

    You can cancel your appointment the day before when you receive a confirmation text or call us at 415-581-1600 to reschedule.

  • How long will my visit be?

    10-30 minutes for most general testing visits, 1 hour for a visit with a nurse or nurse practitioner (for medications or nurse examinations).

  • Are HIV & STI tests anonymous?

    We offer confidential HIV & STI testing, but we will request an email or phone number to contact you when we receive the test results.

  • How do I get my lab results?

    Our Patient Portal or the Healow app.

  • How long do labs take to result?

    Generally 3-5 business days. We will contact you if there is anything you need to be aware of.

  • What testing options are available?

    Please see our Sexual Health Services page for a full list of testing available!

  • What insurances do you take? What if I am not in-network?

    We are currently seeking contracts with most major insurance. If you are not in-network, you are still welcome to receive services at our clinic. Please give us a call at 415-581-1600 for more information on your options.

  • How much should I expect to pay for services?

    This depends on your insurance and copay costs. If you are uninsured, we have a sliding scale fee option that is based on your income. Regardless of ability to pay, we still want Strut to be accessible to everyone and never turn anyone away for services. Please talk with us about your situation and we can find a solution that works for you.
