SAN FRANCISCO, August 4, 2023–San Francisco AIDS Foundation is pleased to announce a planned expansion of its health services for people who use drugs through a new site in SoMa, in partnership with the San Francisco Department of Public Health. The new site, located at 444 6th Street, between Bryant Street and Harrison Street in San Francisco, is planned to open in December, 2023.
“San Francisco AIDS Foundation has a long history providing health and harm reduction services for people who use substances, and we are proud to be a leading provider of harm reduction resources in the city. This new site will be a natural extension of the life-saving work we are already doing,” said Tyler TerMeer, PhD, CEO of SFAF. “We are eager to expand these services at a time when many in our community are at risk for fatal overdose, and need access to health and medical care, overdose prevention, counseling, safer supplies, and the other critical resources we provide.”
The new site is part of the Overdose Prevention Plan by the San Francisco Department of Public Health, released in 2022. As stated in the plan, the goal is to “provide overdose prevention services and resources, services to improve health, and linkages to treatment.”
SFAF plans to provide a variety of health and services for people who use drugs at the new site, including naloxone access, overdose prevention and management training, drug checking services, linkage to medication assisted treatment and buprenorphine access, syringe access and disposal, safer use supplies, substance use counseling, jail services support, and medical care including HIV and HCV testing and linkage to care.
