DESCRIPTION:RSVP / Event Details \n“Freedom to Exist” is currently on display at Strut in the Castro. \nPlease join us for an Artist Talk at Strut with the incomparable Aaron Allen Marner who’s powerful work is currently on our gallery walls at Strut! \nAaron Allen Marner\, born and raised in Phoenix\, Arizona\, now currently working as a full-time artist in Los Angeles\, California. Being heavily involved in art as a child\, he reignited his passion and love for art and painting 16 years ago in Los Angeles. From there he began honing his craft \, and exhibiting work in various spaces throughout the country\, building a rapport with local galleries and businesses. \nWhile mostly working with acrylics\, acrylic pen\, oil and spray paints\, his approach to portrait and figurative painting ranges from using collage style\, with vibrant\, colorful hues while often adding geometric shapes and aspects of nature giving viewers a sense of abstraction and surrealism. Not being subjugated to one style\, texture\, and heavy application of acrylic paint and palette knife strokes while using a more monochromatic style has become a vast part of his creativity. The purpose in his work often is to convey his experiences but also give viewers a sense of power and emotion. \nFrom fun pieces to serious art\, topics that are represented in his work are often thought provoking\, including works on social justice\, mental health issues\, racial inequality\, HIV prevention\, academic art\, gay pride inspired work\, domestic violence\, nature\, and public art. His mission is to inspire all who aspire to create art\, to invoke discussion\, learn\, teach and to evolve through the process. He also believes that representation is extremely important. Having the ability to see someone who looks like you pursuing their dreams allows others to believe that they can pursue theirs as well.

SUMMARY:Queer Ancestors Project Artist Panel
DESCRIPTION:The Queer Ancestors Project is devoted to forging sturdy relationships between LGBTQI people and our ancestors. \nUsing history as a linchpin\, we build community by providing Queer and Trans people\, age 18 to 26\, free interdisciplinary workshops in printmaking\, writing\, and Queer history. Public exhibitions and readings of their work provide a window on the past through which the larger community can glimpse our collective future. \nOur artist panel will be on Friday\, February 27\, from 7 – 9 pm. At this event\, artists will share more about the histories and experiences that inspired their prints and about their artistic process throughout the workshop! ASL interpretation will be available. \nAccessibility: We are asking all attendees to mask and will have KN-95 masks available for all. ASL interpretation is provided at the artist panel. There are no stairs to enter the lobby level at Strut from the street level. The building has three floors\, and there is a stairwell with handrails and a wheelchair-accessible elevator. There are 26 steps from the lobby to the 2nd floor and 48 steps from the lobby to the 3rd floor. Come on by! \nHosted by two local queer SPECTACULAR darling writer/comedians CYNTHIA IN PUBLIC\, and MATTHEW BELD! \nSign up list goes on at 7PM\, show starts at around 7:15pm. If the list gets full and you are patient\, we will try to squeeze you in\, we always try to get everyone up on the list\, usually if you are patient everyone gets up on the mic\, we just can’t guarantee it. \nSigning up gets you 5 minutes\, and that’s it! That means 5 minutes of comedy\, or 5 minutes to read one literary piece\, or you can do one song\, but just 5 minutes. \nWe also usually have wine and snacks! Don’t drink? After spending 30 years living in Manhattan–25 of those with weekend on Fire Island Pines–he has built a life rooted in art\, connection\, and observation. \nA graduate of the University at Buffalo with a BFA\, Stuart has traveled the world\, yet finds his greatest inspiration in the intimacy of photographing people. \nWhether capturing a headshot\, portrait\, or candid moment on the street\, the personal connection with his subject is vital to a successful image.
