Urban(e) Hike: Mt Sutro Open Space Reserve
September 26 11:00 am - 2:00 pm
The Bridgemen and 50-Plus groups are taking another urban hike in San Francisco! This time it will be to Rotary Meadow at Mt Sutro Open Space Reserve, a 61-acre ecological oasis in the heart of San Francisco, just south of UCSF’s Parnassus Heights campus.
We’ll meet at Strut (470 Castro St) at 11 AM. This event will be B.Y.O.L. (Bring Your Own Lunch), so please arrive with your food and beverage, ready to go. From there we’ll hike all the way up and back down to the western end of 17th St to the Stanyan Trailhead. A nice hike through the eucalyptus grove brings us to the Rotary Meadow, a garden of California native plants at the summit, where we can relax and eat lunch together. It’s nearly 3.5 miles there and back, with an approximate elevation gain of 865 feet.
Things to bring:
- Food and drink for yourself. Remember to bring plenty of water to stay hydrated!
- Sunscreen and/or a hat.
- Jacket and/or layers if it’s chilly.
- Blanket to sit on (I can bring 3 lightweight picnic blankets from Strut; I just need help carrying them all).
