A Work in Progress: Joan Rivers on Stage for Magnet

Joan RiversJoan Rivers, the Emmy award winning on-screen personality and comedian chose San Francisco to debut "The Joan Rivers Theatre Project," her most recent theatrical production. Rivers debuted this piece of autobiographical drama at the Magic Theatre at Fort Mason in September to an enthusiastic crowd of her devoted fans. Because of the support—and laughs—she has garnered from the gay community throughout her career, Rivers wanted her earliest performances to benefit HIV and AIDS services. David Jobin, managing director of the Magic Theatre, selected Magnet and Positive Resource Center as beneficiaries. Known for decades as an audacious stand-up comic, Rivers takes on topics ranging from plastic surgery (hers and others') to being blacklisted after her appearance on "The Tonight Show" to her husband's suicide. Rivers remains uncertain where the production will go next, but Broadway, which is familiar territory for the show-business legend, remains a possibility.
