On the Road with the AIDS/LifeCycle 5 Education and Prevention Initiative
In
June of 2006, AIDS/LifeCycle inaugurated an outreach, education, and prevention
program for the communities along the bike ride's route from San
Francisco to Los Angeles.
Funded by the California State Office of AIDS and conducted in partnership with
local non-profit organizations, the program provided HIV/AIDS information at
daily community health events, as well as at each campsite visited by the ALC
cyclist and roadie community.
Diego
Sans and Sergio Cano ably represented the San Francisco AIDS Foundation's California HIV/AIDS Hotline. On Day 4 of the ride, Dan Reid, program administrator
for the Santa Barbara County HIV/AIDS Services Program, addressed the ALC
community, saying that "events like AIDS/ LifeCycle are invaluable tools in
raising awareness and reminding the public that prevention and education are
key to reducing the transmission of HIV."
