An Inspired Partnership - A Profile of an AIDS Foundation Donor
Janet Peterson, "JP" to her family and
friends, made her first donation to the San Francisco AIDS Foundation in the
early 1990s because HIV/AIDS was an issue near and dear to her heart. Many of
her friends had died of AIDS over the years, and she knew they suffered not
only from the disease but also from the stigma associated with it. That
knowledge inspired her to start supporting the AIDS Foundation because, "Everyone
should be concerned about this disease; this is not a partisan issue.
Organizations like the AIDS Foundation aren't going to get enough money from
the government, so we have to provide the support."
In 1994, she joined our Partners in Caring
program, a special group of compassionate and committed people who are united
to end the pandemic and human suffering caused by HIV. Partners in Caring
members make monthly gifts by credit card, electronic funds transfer, or by
sending monthly checks. No mat-
ter how they give,
these regular donors support HIV education, prevention, advocacy and direct
services for more than 100,000 people every year.
Eleven years later, JP is as committed as
ever, raising $750 for this year's AIDS Walk from friends, colleagues and her current
employer. She encourages others to join her in support of the AIDS Foundation
because, "We've all been touched by HIV/AIDS in some way, and people still need
our help. We'll never eradicate this disease if we don't provide the needed
money for services and education."
