San Francisco Marathoners Raise Nearly $700,000 for HIV/AIDS Services
On a typically foggy July morning, almost
15,000 people participated in the San Francisco Marathon sponsored by Runner's
World. 308 of those runners were on a special journey as part of the AIDS Marathon Training Program, raising nearly $700,000 in
support of the San Francisco
AIDS Foundation and other AIDS service organizations. All 308 runners reached
their goal: to complete either a half or full marathon! Congratulations to those
dedicated runners who trained for nearly six months and raised more than $1,600
each.
Held on July 31st, this was the first year
the National AIDS Marathon Training Program participated in the San Francisco Marathon.
This is also the first time since 9/11 that the Marathon crossed
the Golden Gate Bridge, undoubtedly one of the most
scenic parts of the 26.2 mile route.
The AIDS Foundation is deeply grateful to
these runners for being such incredible ambassadors in the fight against AIDS.
We also commend the volunteers who cheered on our runners throughout the course
and helped to make the day such a huge success.
You, too can be a part of ending the AIDS
epidemic! If you are interested in participating in the 2006 San Francisco Marathon
or one of the other marathons connected to the AIDS Marathon Training Program,
please call 510-451- 4800 or visit www.aidsmarathon.com. It is a great way to get in shape,
accomplish a major goal, and raise funds for a very meaningful cause.
