AIDS/LifeCycle to Be Seen on LOGO TV
The 4th
Annual AIDS/LifeCycle held last June raised $6.8 million to support the
programs of both the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center. All of the more than 2,000
cyclists and roadies completing the 585-mile journey from San
Francisco to Los Angeles
have unique stories detailing their reasons for participating and their
experiences on the ride itself. Fortunately, some of those stories have been
captured in a documentary shot during the seven days on the road.
"We were thrilled
when LOGO TV, an emerging gay network of MTV, approached us with the idea of
creating the documentary," said Stephen Cadby, Associate Director for
AIDS/LifeCycle. "The opportunity to see this event through the eyes of its
participants is the best way to appreciate the enormous commitment made by so
many to continue the battle to end AIDS. There is no better way to increase
awareness about AIDS/LifeCycle than by word of mouth. While staff members can
provide information about the event, it is the participants who make up the
heart and soul of the experience. This documentary will highlight some of these
experiences."
With the
extraordinary geography of California
as a backdrop, viewers of the upcoming documentary will get a glimpse of the
mental, physical and emotional challenges it takes to ride 585 miles in one
week. The personal journey of each highlighted participant gives a taste of why
so many choose to test their physical limits and to fundraise for the services
of the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center.
Many participants
say the ride changes their lives for the better; we are gratified to know that
it changes our clients' lives for the better too. "We hope," Cadby emphasizes,
"that through the intimate stories shared in this film, many young people will
realize that AIDS is still here and that it is NOT an easy disease to live
with."
Airing times for
this documentary will be announced on LOGO TV in the coming weeks. Check your
local cable listings for the latest information.
