HIVision: What's Going On? - HIV and Black Gay Men
HIVision is an ongoing forum series bringing research and evidence to bear on timely policy and programmatic issues. As thinking on HIV/AIDS continues to evolve, HIVision provides a safe venue to engage the community on potentially controversial topics.
What's going on?: HIV and Black Gay Men
By all accounts, Black gay men in America are at increasing risk for HIV infection. A study in five major U.S. cities found that 46 percent of Black gay men were infected with HIV-more than twice the rate for white gay men. At this HIVision Forum, we will explore factors that contribute to this disparity, such as economic inequality, limited access to health care, and the role of incarceration, and will review what is being done in the Bay Area and nationally to put an end to an unacceptable situation. This forum was held on May 15, 2008 at the
African-American Art & Culture Complex.
