The World Health Organization reports that more African women than men have HIV and AIDS.
Due to drug prices and poor health care, the majority of people with HIV in the world are not receiving AIDS treatments.
Reggie Williams, founder of the National AIDS Task Force on AIDS Prevention, dies of AIDS.
In the face of studies showing increased rates of unprotected anal intercourse among gay men in San Francisco, the AIDS Foundation unveils a multi-year HIV prevention initiative focused on the assumptions many gay men are making about the HIV status of their sexual partners and their decision not to use condoms, particularly with anonymous and casual partners. It asks gay men the question, "How Do You Know What You Know?"
