How You Can Help End AIDS

- Participate in microbicide advocacy, the next frontier in user-controlled HIV prevention options. To learn more, visit the Global Campaign for Microbicides at global-campaign.org.
- Help prevent the spread of HIV and other blood-borne diseases among injection drug users by volunteering at a needle exchange site. To volunteer, call 415-241-5130.
- Join the Caucus for Evidence-based Prevention to speak out against prevention programs that are based on ideology, not science. For more information, visit www.hiv-prevention.org.
- Empower women living with HIV by purchasing hand-made items from women-owned cooperatives in countries hardest-hit by HIV/AIDS at beadforlife.org or busharaislandcamp.com.
- Talk to your family and friends about the effects of HIV and AIDS on your life and encourage them to take action to end the epidemic.
- Request an HIV test at your next doctor's visit if you have not been tested within the last year, or visit a publicly funded HIV test site. For testing referrals, call the California HIV/AIDS Hotline at 800-367-AIDS.
- Seek treatment if you are HIV-positive and encourage others to do the same. For treatment information and referrals, visit sfhiv.org or call 800-822-7422.
- Talk to your doctor if you suffer from depression and/or substance use to help you to be safe when you have sex. For referrals, call the California HIV/AIDS Hotline at 800-367-AIDS.
- Use a sterile syringe every time if you are an injection drug user. For needle exchange site locations, visit sfaf.org/hpp or call 415/241-5100.
- Make certain to use a condom or other protective barriers whenever you have sex with a partner of uncertain or different HIV status.
- Disclose your HIV status to your sexual partners to promote safe sex.
- Receive updates about HIV/AIDS issues by joining SFAF's Action Center at action.sfaf.org.
- Join the HIV Advocacy Network (HAN), a group that advocates for sound HIV policies at the local, state and national levels, at sfaf.org/policy/han.
- Start a community dialogue by posting a comment to SFAF's blog at sfaf.org.
