California HIV/AIDS Hotline
The California HIV/AIDS
Hotline, a program of the San Francisco AIDS Foundation, provides information
about HIV and AIDS, emotional support, and referrals in both English and
Spanish. The Hotline provides information on a variety of issues, including HIV
and STD testing, HIV transmission, HIV/AIDS treatments, and other related
topics.
The Hotline is staffed each
year by more than 100 volunteers, who complete a 32-hour training program to
prepare them for their work. Volunteers are supported by a small group of paid
staff who coordinate schedules and provide support during each shift of the
Hotline.
Both volunteers and staff are
assisted by a Foundation-maintained referral database at www.aidshotline.org. The database
contains over 1,300 referral organizations and programs providing HIV/AIDS
services throughout California.
The Hotline handles more than
70,000 calls and emails each year. All calls are anonymous and confidential.
Hotline hours are from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and
Friday and from 9:00am to 9:00pm on Tuesdays.
