STATUS Regular-Part-time 24 hours per week
REPORTS TO Clinical Services Manager
GENERAL SUMMARY
The clinical Registered Nurse (RN) provides direct patient care during assigned hours of operation. This position will function within the scope of practice as defined by Magnet’s protocol based model and the State of California. This includes assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluating Magnet clients for sexually transmitted infections* (STI) and HIV infection*. General Job functions include but are not limited to: Physical assessment, diagnosis, and implementation of treatment or referrals as defined by Magnet’s protocols for STI/HIV screening and treatment guidelines. Also included are the procurement and processing of specimen cultures for gonorrhea, chlamydia, and syphilis. This RN will also be a certified as an HIV screener and actively involved with screening clients for HIV as well as linking new positives into a health care system. Additional responsibilities include staff support, direct and indirect monitoring of clinical volunteers. The RN will also function as a general clinical resource for all licensed and non-licensed volunteers. The position also includes filing, maintaining client records, facilities management, and other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
· Provides direct clinical services as defined by Magnet protocols and treatment guidelines. This includes procurement of specimens, phlebotomy, implementation of treatments as per protocols, client/patient counseling and education.
· Serves as the primary interface with patients/customers seeking screening for sexually transmitted infections such as gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, receiving hepatitis vaccinations, and screening for HIV antibodies.
· Serves as liaison between patients/clients and providers ensuring continuity of care and through patient/client assessment for STI’s, HIV, or both.
· Provides assistance with partner notification and client linkages to care for newly diagnosed HIV patients/clients.
· Augments the provision of HIV testing services and follow-up with clients as needed.
· Will work closely with the clinical services manger and HIV manager in coordinating care of patients/clients.
· Assists in the case management of patients/clients diagnosed with syphilis.
· Maintains confidentiality of patients/clients and patient/client medical records at all times.
· Works with Magnet staff and other volunteers to insure quality of care.
· Provides patient/client education on symptoms of, screening for, and prevention of STI’s and HIV infections.
· Provides referrals as appropriate to outside providers.
· Assists in the coordination of clinic operations, flow, and client/patient care.
· Assists in the coordination of specimen processing and quality assurance.
· Completes documentation of clinical services provided with a high level of detail and thoroughness.
· Must have thorough understanding of medical terminology, disease processes as related to services provided at Magnet.
· Other professional or administrative duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1. Current and verifiable California License (RN, MD, or NP-Certificate)
2. Current Health Care Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
3. Must obtain certification as an HIV-Counselor within 6-months of hire.
4. At least 3-years in an acute hospital setting such as emergency services, intensive care, or other specialty service.
5. Excellent communications skills.
6. Must possess strong clinical assessment skills.
7. Possess sound mental and physical ability to work under stressful situations.
8. Demonstrate ability to make sound decisions, use good judgment, and show initiative in work procedures.
9. Knowledge of basic HIV and STD transmission with the ability to discuss sex and sexuality openly.
10. Basic knowledge of substance use and mental health concerns
11. Excellent computer skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
12. Ability to use considerable judgment and initiative in course of executing responsibilities.
13. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks with conflicting levels of priority.
14. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
15. Ability to communicate with employees and other agency contacts in a courteous and professional manner.
16. Ability to maintain schedules.
17. Knowledge of general clinic practices, protocols and procedures.
18. Knowledge of written communication formats, business English, and composition.
19. Skilled in operating various office equipment, such as personal computer, calculator, copy machine, fax machine, and telephone system.
20. Ability to work comfortably with diverse populations, with sensitivity to issues concerning HIV and all disabilities.
21. Ability to perform routine bending/stooping while filing.
22. Ability to perform routine twisting/reaching while working at computer/desk.
23. Ability to perform routine walking/standing during course of day.
24. Ability to hear and speak well enough to converse over telephone 100% of the time.
25. Ability to see well enough to use computer efficiently and read computer reports and correspondence 100% of the time.
26. Ability to take direction and work in harmony with other providers to augment a high level of client and patient care.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
· High School Graduation or GED equivalent.
· Graduate from accredited school of nursing.
· Bachelor of Science in Nursing Required. Masters preferred.
· Prefer at least once year of related experience providing health and prevention education and outreach services, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience preferred.
· Ability to take direction and carry out tasks with minimal overview and follow-up.
· Ability to manage multiple tasks with conflicting levels of priority.
· Able to multi-task with high volume customer service delivery systems.
· Preferred experience with substance use, mental health, and HIV and STD screening, diagnosis and treatment.
· Preferred experience with health education and community organizing principles among gay men.
· Bilingual Spanish speaker preferred.
