AIDS: Fight The Fear With The Facts (1987)

Fight the Fear with the Facts Thumbnail #1SAN FRANCISCO, CA, 1987 -- AIDS: Fight the Fear with the Facts is an AIDS education effort being coordinated by the San Francisco AIDS Foundation in tandem with all of the AIDS education agencies/programs throughout Northern California. This effort is partially funded by the California State Department of Health Services and the San Francisco Department of Public Health.

AIDS: Fight the Fear with the Facts is a media-intensive program focusing on educating the general public, not specifically high risk groups. It is designed to increase general awareness and understanding about AIDS. The objectives of this education campaign are to state the facts about AIDS; to reduce the unnecessary epidemic of fear and refute inaccurate misconceptions about AIDS; and, to emphasize where additional information can be obtained ahout AIDS. Education has been proven to be a successful and powerful tool in stopping the spread of the AIDS virus; the same tool can be just as powerful in stopping the spread of AlDS-related fear.

AIDS: Fight the Fear with the Facts emphasizes the vital need for education among all people--all races, ages and sexes. The education messages will be introduced to the public via television public service announcements, print advertising and media outreach efforts. Radio public service announcements will be added to the campaign in the near future. The campaign will be introduced in all 45 counties of Northern California.

AIDS: Fight the Fear with the Facts promotes the AIDS Hotline (operated by the San Francisco AIDS Foundation for all of Northern California) as an important AIDS education resource for everyone. The AIDS Hotline is toll-free in Northern California, and is a confidential place a person may call as often as needed to get the most accurate answers to AlDS-related concerns and questions, or to request helpful literature.

AIDS: Fight the Fear with the Facts will succeed as an education campaign if just one focal point is remembered by the general public: AIDS and AlDS- related fear are both preventable through a clear understanding of the facts.
