A special statement from foundation CEO Neil Giuliano:
Despite our very best efforts, we will not present the Big Gay 10K in 2013. But before I get into the details about this year, I want to assure you that the Big Gay 10K will be back next year—bigger than ever!
This was a difficult decision and one that we did not make lightly—especially because you, our loyal supporters, have made this one of the fastest-growing and most beloved fundraising events we produce all year.
I want to share with you how we got here. This summer, we secured a permit to hold the run at Crissy Field, its home since its inception three years ago. Unfortunately, our permit was revoked at the last minute when the Parks & Recreation Department determined it needed additional visitor capacity to accommodate the America’s Cup.
When we received notification, we worked quickly to secure a permit for an alternative date and route. Unfortunately, given San Francisco’s exceptionally busy calendar of events this year, we were unsuccessful at finding a location that would enable us to produce a top-notch event.
Again, this is by no means the end of the Big Gay 10K. In fact, we are already working on a plan for next year’s event. We anticipate it will happen sometime in the late summer or early fall of 2014. Of course, we’ll keep you up-to-date on all our plans and let you know the date once it’s secured.
Thank you for your understanding and your continued support of San Francisco AIDS Foundation.
